How Is It Used?
Take Relenza as per your doctor's instruction. Relenza is
prescribed for regular inhalation through the mouth. Follow
the directions on the prescription label. The usual regimen
is 2 inhalations twice daily, morning and night, at regular
intervals for 5 days. On the first day, make sure to take
2 doses (each consisting of 2 inhalations) at least 2 hours
apart.
Are
There Possible Side Effects?
The use of Relenza can rarely cause side effects however sometimes
it cac cause serios problems like difficulty breathing or
shortness of breath, fainting, infection and inflammation
of the sinuses (nose) and chest, pain while breathing, skin
rash or blistering of skin and wheezing. If any such disorder
bothers you consult your health care professional.
Is It
Safe?
Relenza is not safe for people suffering from chronic lung
disease such as asthma or COPD, severe heart disease, severe
kidney disease, an unusual or allergic reaction to zanamivir,
lactose, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives, pregnant
or trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not take Relenza
without informing your doctor if you are undergoing any of
these problems.
What
About Interactions With Other Drugs?
There have not been any information regarding Relenza's drug
interaction but from safety point of view it is important
to inform your doctor before taking any prescription or over-the-counter
medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products..
What
If I Miss A Dose?
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost
time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double
or extra doses.
How
Should It Be Stored?
Store it at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
Anything
Else I Should Know?
Do finish the dosage of Relenza that has been prescribed for
you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start
to improve before the infection is completely treated in order
to gain maximum benefit. Relenza will not prevent the flu
and it is not a substitute for a flu shot. Take your doctor's
advice about the importance of an annual flu shot.
