Drug developer Mylan Laboratories Inc. said Wednesday the Food and Drug Administration approved its generic version of Levothroid to treat hypothyroidism and pituitary TSH suppression.
Both conditions involve the thyroid gland failing to produce enough thyroid hormone.
Levothroid, which is made by Lloyd Pharmaceuticals for Forest Laboratories Inc., registered sales of about $32.9 million for the 12-month period ended Sept. 30. Total sales for all Levothyroxine brands and generic equivalents totaled about $1 billion for the same period, the company said.
Shares of Mylan rose 23 cents to $20.19 on the New York Stock Exchange in midday trading.
