Finasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Finasteride belongs to the assembly of medicines known as enzyme inhibitors. It is used to cure urinary problems due to enlargement of the prostate. In men with much enlarged prostates & mild to moderate symptoms finasteride may decrease the severity of symptoms. Women of childbearing potential should not use finasteride because it can cause birth defects in male fetuses.

How Is It Used?
Dosage of finasteride is different for different patients. Follow your doctor's/pharmacist directions on the label. The following information includes only the average dose of finasteride. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so:

Are There Possible Side Effects?
The side effects are rare but it may include impotence with decreased sex drive. It should not be used by women, children, or male partners of women trying to become pregnant. It should not be used until a thorough prostate examination has been done to exclude cancer, stricture, or infection in the gland.

What particular precautions should I follow?
Women who are or who may become pregnant should not handle crushed finasteride tablets. There is a risk that the medicine could get into the pregnant woman's body and cause birth defects in a male fetus.

What about Interactions with Other Drugs?
Drug interactions are generally not a problem.

What If I Miss A Dose?
In this case, take the dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

How Should It Be Stored?
Finasteride should be stored at room temperature in a tight light resistant container safely.
