Is It Used For?
Alesse have effects that inhibit pregnancy.
They cause the cervical mucous to thicken, which makes it
harder for sperm to move towards the uterus, and they prevent
the attachment of an egg to the uterus. They are used to prevent
pregnancy. It may also be used for purposes other than those
listed in this medication guide.
How Is It Used?
Take one pill every day, keeping a gap of a maximum of 24
hours since your last dose. Taking your pill at night may
help to reduce any nausea or headache that you may experience
because of the hormones. If you are on a 28-day cycle, take
one pill every day. When the pack runs out, throw it away.
Begin a new pack the following day. Follow your doctor's instructions
about using a second form of birth control when you first
start taking birth control pills, when you are taking antibiotics,
or if you miss a pill. If you are unsure what to do in any
of these cases, talk to your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor
about how to ensure that you will not become pregnant.
Are There Possible
Side Effects?
Serious side effects from Alesse may include an allergic reaction
(difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of
your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a blood clot in the
lung, arm or leg; high blood pressure or lever damage.
Less serious side effects like: dizziness,
headache, and breakthrough bleeding and breast tenderness
are more likely to occur. Talk to your doctor about any side
effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

taking birth control pills, when you are taking antibiotics,

What About Interactions
With Other Drugs?
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Alesse.
Some drugs may decrease the effectiveness of birth control
pills, which may result in pregnancy. Use a second form of
birth control if you are taking a penicillin antibiotic such
as amoxicillin, ampicillin, bacampicillin, carbenicillin dicloxacillin,
penicillin, antibiotics, or phenobarbital. Drugs other than
those listed here may also interact with birth control pills.
Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription
or over-the-counter medicines.
What If I Miss A
Dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it but skip it
in case it is the time to take the next dose. Take the next
scheduled dose in such a situation.
How Should It Be
Stored?
Rofecoxib should be kept at room temperature (between 15º-30º
C (59º-86º F)) away from moisture and heat. Throw
away any unused medicine after the expiration dates.
Anything Else I Should
Know?
Avoid smoking cigarettes while taking birth control pills.
Smoking greatly increases the risk of having a heart attack,
stroke, or blood clot.
